Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust

Winstone Aggregates is proud to be a major sponsor of the Maungatautari Ecological Island project. The objective of the trust is to develop a ‘mainland island’ - a fully vermin-proof sanctuary for the preservation of indigenous wildlife right down to frogs, insects and fish as well as endangered birdlife. The Trust has successfully constructed a 47km pest-proof fence around Maungatutari Mountain and is now re-introducing threatened species that have been lost from the area including kiwi, kokako, giant weta and tuatara. www.maungatrust.org
