Local Hutt Valley residents will get the opportunity to check out operations at Winstone Aggregates Belmont Quarry on Saturday 15 March at a community open day.
The open day, to be held from 9am to 1pm, will provide locals with the chance to see the existing operation and talk with staff about the proposed Cottle Land Overburden Disposal Area.
Quarry manager, Tim Hazell, said open days at the company's other sites have proved extremely popular. "There is always a high level of interest in what we do at our sites. The quarry has been part of the local community for more than 100 years and it is a great opportunity to see how it operates and the way in which we work with the local community."
The open day will also provide an opportunity for local residents to register their interest in becoming part of the soon to be established Belmont Quarry Community Liaison Group.
Mr Hazell said there will be plenty to see and do for all the family. "We try to make the day a family event and there will be a range of fun activities for children as well as adults including van tours of the quarry, mini digger rides and a "guess the weight of the rock" competition. |
