Cement-treated basecourse (CTB) has been around for a while, but recent technological advancements mean that it's now a simple task to deliver a consistent product, manufactured to individual specification, with only a day's notice. Whether you call it cement treating, modifying or stabilising, the technique essentially improves the quality of basecourses for road building. Increasingly popular, plant stabilising improves the accuracy of the production process, allowing for a more controlled and consistent finished product.
Cement-treated base is a computer controlled mixture of aggregate material with measured amounts (typically 2% - 5%) of cement and water. The mix hardens after compaction and curing to form an excellent base material, which is then overlaid with a bituminous wearing course to complete the road structure. Cement-treated base is used as a base for projects such as motorways, roads, parking areas, airports, and in other applications. Winstone Aggregates operates CTB plants at Flat Top and Hunua. Hunua's plant is able to stabilise the full range of basecourse and sub-base products from Hunua 40 and GAP65 through to TNZ M4. Flat Top's plant allows us to take a material such as GAP40 and bring it up to a standard equivalent to TNZ M4.
