The Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project (D2P) is the Hutt Valley's largest roading construction project for many years.
The project (a joint-venture between Fletcher Construction and Higgins) is scheduled to be completed in early 2010 and forms part of Transit's long term strategy to eradicate traffic lights from Wellington city along State Highway 2 to the Rimutaka Hills. Over-bridges at Korokoro and the bottom of Dowse Drive will provide a much better link between both sides of SH2.
Winstone Aggregates' cleanfill site at Dry Creek has accepted more than 5500 truck loads from the D2P project. Whilst this project is nearing completion, the cleanfill is anticipating large volumes of fill from the Haywards sub-station land stabilisation and the SH2 to SH58 interchange projects. With this in mind, Dry Creek has been expanded to provide capacity for a further eight years.
Did you know.... The western edge of the Dowse Drive to Petone section of SH2 is located on the scarp of the Wellington Fault. |
