This October, the winners of the third Fletcher Building Health and Safety Excellence Awards were announced. Finalists were selected from nominations received from across the Fletcher Building group, with final decisions made by a judging panel of internal and external representatives.
The entries for 2009 were of a high quality with several Fletcher Building business units reporting reduced injury rates by between 30% and 50%, a reflection of programmes integrated to address safety culture and behaviours.
"2009 was a tough year," said Chief Executive Jonathan Ling in his address. "With the economic recession, we've had to make many changes to our business. Maintaining safety performance in these circumstances is challenging and we can take pride in the improvements we have achieved."
