Winstone Aggregates has purchased Cameron Quarries at Otamarakau, 30 kilometres south of Te Puke.

The decision to buy the Cameron Quarries operation and the three businesses it supports - Cameron's Quarry Limited, Pacific Pumice Supplies and Cameron's Transport - was made because of the ideal location and the high quality greywacke and pumice resources.

The existing pumice operation is the largest in New Zealand. Winstone Aggregates General Manager Bernie Chote says there is growing demand for pumice from the dairying and horticulture sectors as well as the export market. The company will also benefit from the rapid growth the Bay of Plenty region is experiencing. One of the fastest developing areas in the country, Transit New Zealand has funding of around $2.6 billion for roading development.

Winstone Aggregates has retained all existing staff and will operate three truck and trailer units to service the quarry.
